The Open Data Catalog is the Demiton surface for browsing and pinning curated Australian government datasets. All connectors in the Public Data category - CKAN state portals, AusTender, ABR, and BOM - are managed centrally by the Demiton platform. No credentials or connector configuration required on your side.

Each source is a platform-owned connector. Demiton maintains the API registrations - your account inherits access automatically on signup.

Browsing the catalog

For Insights+ customers: public data is available through the MCP server immediately on signup. Query any of the four sources through Claude or ChatGPT with no setup step.

For platform administrators: the catalog browser at /hq-platform/catalog shows all available CKAN packages across registered portals. From this surface you can:

  • Browse datasets by portal, organisation, or keyword
  • Pin frequently used packages to a named alias for easier workflow targeting
  • Track a package - making it available in Insights+ customer queries
  • Untrack packages to remove them from the queryable set

Querying via MCP

All public data sources are available through the standard MCP tools. Example queries:

  • “Which civil contractors were awarded Cross River Rail packages?” - AusTender
  • “Is [Supplier ABN] GST-registered? What is their entity type?” - ABR
  • “What were the weather conditions at the Cunningham Gap site last month?” - BOM
  • “Search data.qld.gov.au for infrastructure project datasets in southeast Queensland.” - CKAN
